No more naked Barbies!

Who isn't tired of looking at naked barbie's perfect body lying around the house?
I put my nail polish to the best use it's had making swimming suits for the girls' barbies.  The one on the right was already painted. The girls were pretty excited to see their barbies in swimming suits ready for the pool!

I have received some valid comments from readers who have understood that I am teaching my girls to be ashamed of their bodies.  I hope I can end your anxiety over this and let you know my reasons for the swimsuits on the barbies.  Like these readers, I feel very strongly the importance of teaching my daughters the beauty and sacredness of their bodies.  We talk freely and openly about our bodies in our home and in covering them up around others, we are showing respect for our bodies.  Our bodies are so special and beautiful, we don't feel that they are to be flaunted for the public to see.  We demand respect for our bodies from those who we associate with.  We should NEVER be ashamed of our bodies.  My girls know this and are very comfortable in their own skin.  As beautiful daughters of God, my girls have love and respect for the amazing blessing of beautiful female bodies.

I hope this eases anxiety any of you are feeling about my decision to teach my girls respect for their bodies.  If not, please know that I have the best intentions in my heart.  Please keep comments respectful.  My girls visit my blog and it is meant to be uplifting and edifying for them.  Thank you for your concern.

  1. I rescue dolls from 2nd hand shops and the first thing I do is make them all underwear. I hate to see naked babies.

  2. Thanks so much for this idea! With three grand daughters, I'm sure we will be seeing Barbies at some stage in their little lives.

  3. I love it! I have 4 daughters and who knows how many Barbies. I didn't think much of their naked state until my friend with 3 boys came over and the boys were shocked! I'm going to do this today!!

  5. That is hilarious! My husband and I can't stand the skimpy clothes on Barbie's so we have spent fortunes on buying the Barbie's with the fancier but more modest dresses. Well every single Barbie is naked! I seriously don't have time to keep redressing 20 barbies but a nail polish swimsuit I can probably handle. Love it!!

  6. Good idea! We used Sharpie and gave them swim suits but it gradually comes off.

  9. I am going to do this with my grand daughters. They are always whining and complaining about not being able to get the tiny underwear pieces on and off the barbies.
BTW....They choose to put underwear on their dolls without being told...probably because in our society we send our dear children out the door with underwear on. I guess we haven't stooped to savage yet! Well at least some of us!

  11. I love this idea. It is just 10 years to late in my house but I sure will be passing it on. This is a great idea for a daycare or all of them.

  12. Love it! I have two girls and we are very casual at home and run around pants-less most of the time but when there is a knock on the door or we leave the house we work on modesty!!!

  13. I just find this ridiculous covering barbies nakedness is kind of teaching your child naked bodies are not okay. my son and daughter know what a vagina and penis are.. when they are in grade school they will not go wondering or think the words are funny or anyway inappropriate. The more you make it look wrong the more they will think a naked body is wrong or funny..

    1. Painting them up is not teaching children that naked bodies are bad, naked bodies are appropriate in the bath tub and with your spouse once they are married-simple as that. No parent would let their child look at pictures of people naked, why play with dolls that are naked?

  14. I love buying barbies at thrift stores and fixing them up! Im a collector of the unloved dolls. I remember I used the sharpie technique on them growing up cause I was tired of seeing naked dolls, not that naked dolls offend me or anything like that, it's just they all look the same and I liked the clothes better off cause I played with my dolls so much the clothes always got worn out. When I tried sharpies on the dolls it wound up staining them permanently so I'm glad I discovered this!
